In 1988, the Iranian officials showed the families of over 44 political prisoners in Ahwaz a concrete slab. They were told that the executed prisoners were buried there. Since then the authorities have repeatedly desecrated the site. Watch the video for more information.

In 2017, video evidence shows bulldozers working on a construction project beside the mass grave in Ahwaz.  According to a reliable source, the plan was to clear the site for a green or commercial space, however, new footage shows the site being buried under construction waste.
