Amnesty International warns against the destruction of mass graves in Iran

April 30, 2018

Zeit online, a German news website, released a report on the destruction of mass grave sites in Iran. The summary reads as follows:

In 1988 Iran, thousands of political activists were executed extrajudicially in prisons across Iran, and their bodies were buried in mass graves. According to Amnesty International, the Iranian authorities have been involved in eradicating the forensic evidence of the massacre by destroying mass grave sites between 2003 and 2017.

The massacre was carried out upon the order of Ayatollah Khomeini. The protest on the part of his successor, Ayatollah Montazeri, led to his dismissal from the position.

The Islamic regime has never investigated to the crime and refused to hold accountable those responsible for it.
