Cadena SER -Spain’s radio network- released a report on the destruction of mass grave sites in Iran on 30 April 2018. The summary is as follows:
In 1988, the Iranian regime executed hundreds of political prisoners across Iran and disposed of their bodies in mass graves. Despite the attempts made on the part of the authorities for concealing the graves, they were discovered by the families of victims.
Amnesty International and Justice for Iran published a report indicating the involvement of the Iranian authorities in a series of actions for destroying mass grave sites across Iran. Destruction works accelerated since 2016 when a released audio file of Ayatollah Montazeri, successor to Ayatollah Khomeini, revealed new evidence about the massacre. Subsequently, the families of victims urged the Islamic Republic to shed light on the executions and hold accountable those responsible for the crimes.
Amnesty International and Justice for Iran call on the Iranian authorities to stop destruction of mass graves and acknowledge what happened 30 year ago.
