Sanandaj, the Old Revolutionary Court

In the 1980s, the Revolutionary Court building in Sanandaj was a detention centre for political prisoners. Prisoners sentenced to death after show trials were executed in the courtyard and the basement of the building at various times, including the summer of 1988. This building was later transferred to the Sanandaj Prisons Organization. In 2003, authorities decided to convert part of this building and its courtyard into a commercial property. During construction, workers discovered a mass grave. However, even though this was reported in the local media, construction continued. It is not known what happened to the bodies buried there. At the moment, the location of the mass grave is part of the sidewalk of Municipality Square, one of the busiest places in Sanandaj, near several shops.
