Ahwaz, Seyed Amir Cemetery

On the road from Ahwaz to Mahshahr, on the margins of Imamzadeh Seyed Amir Cemetary and next to the Darvish Naja educational centre, there are two areas covered by cement in which some of the prisoners executed in Ahwaz in 1988 are buried.

According to reports from families and former political prisoners, over 20 corpses were buried there in mass graves. The corpses belonged to those detained in Karoun prison in Ahwaz. Most of these prisoners were not from Ahwaz.

In the decades after the massacre, the families who went to this cemetery to visit their children’s graves were often harassed by the agents if numbers of people gathered there.

To see the exact location of the mass grave, you need to zoom in.
