Shiraz, Darorrahmeh Cemetery

Political prisoners executed in the 1980s were buried at the far end of Darorrahmeh Cemetery in Shiraz. The authorities referred to the area, formerly abandoned, as La’nat abad (the damned land).

A number of ex-prisoners and families of executed prisoners believe that political prisoners in Adel Abad Prison who were executed during the 1988 massacre are buried in the mass graves at this location.

Almost 200 men and women were executed in this prison in the summer of 1988, and none of their bodies were returned to their families.

At the moment, new graves have filled up all of Darorrahmeh Cemetery, and there is no space left, so if there are any unmarked mass graves where they have been hidden under new graves.
