Tabriz, Vadi-e Rahmat Cemetery

At the entrance to the Vadi-e Rahmat Cemetery, the largest in Tabriz, next to the bus station, there is a field called “The Children’s Section” by the authorities. This section is also called “the infidels’ section” or “La’nat abad.”

This area contains the graves of the political prisoners executed in the 1980s. According to locals, some of the political prisoners executed in 1988 were buried in mass graves in this area.

In June 2017, the Cemeteries Organization of Tabriz Municipality launched a project to “assimilate the children’s section into the Hall of Ceremonies.” More than half of the children’s section and the remains of the graves of the political prisoners were covered by concrete.

To see the exact location of the mass grave, you need to zoom in.
